What Sort & Say does
Sort & Say teaches 150 everyday English words and phrases to Zomi-speaking adults.
Each lesson introduces 5 words with a picture, the Zomi word (read and heard), and the
English word (heard slowly). You then sort the three cards — picture, Zomi, English — onto
one wooden shelf. No timer, no score, no losing. The microphone is always optional.
6 shelves, 25 words each: Grocery (free), Pharmacy, Doctor, Bus, Bank,
and Church & Community. Pharmacy and Doctor words are vocabulary only — the app gives
no medical advice.
One-time unlock: The Grocery shelf is always free. Unlock all 5 remaining
shelves for a single one-time payment. Family Sharing is included.
On-device only: No account, no internet required to learn. Nothing you do
leaves your phone.
Frequently asked questions
How do I start learning?
Open the app and follow the Welcome steps — it takes under a minute.
Choose Zolai (Zomi), pick a text size you can read easily, and choose how fast you want
English to be spoken. Then tap Start learning to go to the Shelf Map and
begin Grocery Lesson 1.
Do I need to use the microphone?
No. The "Say it" button is completely optional. You can learn every word
and complete every lesson without speaking. If you deny microphone or speech recognition
permission, the rest of the app is not affected in any way.
I bought the unlock on one device. How do I get it on another?
Open Settings inside Sort & Say and tap Restore purchases.
Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID, so it will be restored at no extra charge. Family
members sharing your Family Sharing group can also restore it.
The text is too small. Can I make it bigger?
Yes. Open Settings inside the app and tap Text size.
You can choose Big (the default), Bigger, or Biggest. You can also choose "Match my phone"
to use your iOS system text size. Every part of the app, including the sorting board,
follows the size you choose.
Why do I see placeholders like [ZO: milk] instead of Zomi words?
If you are running a test or development version of the app, placeholders
appear where the reviewed Zomi text has not yet been added. The App Store version only
shows Zomi text that has been written and reviewed by native-speaking volunteers.
If you see placeholders in the App Store version, please contact us.
